Robot Resistance!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6583893.stm
People are getting very nervous because of how advanced robots are getting... From human bots that talk, to snake-bots that can swim underwater, people are beginning to worry. There are two main reasons, the first one is that Robots are soon going to be involved in the army, ideas of army robots are quite frightening, they could go wrong? Do things to harm there own side? Or course, all technology goes wrong at the testing stages, but surely the army will not even consider robots that havn't been tested. The second, as Professor Noel Sharkey says, one the website above... "I can imagine a future where it is much cheaper to dump old people in big hospitals where machines care for them"... this is worrying... that people wont get human care, and they wont be treated with full repect. Good point.. but Robots are part of the future, and personally, i find it very exciting.

Wireless Internet health scare

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6583815.stm
A collection of places, beleive that wireless internet is a threat however science has proved them wrong. For example students at Canada's Lakehead University have to be careful how they connect to the internet because wi-fi is banned on large parts of the campus. They beleive it can harm people, and it sounds very similar to the phones give you cancer scare, or that microwaves are dangerous and may harm you. Seeing as these are not the case, and scientifically proven to be a load of rubbish, people decided to test, wireless networking is not going to effect you. According to this website, scientist explain that wireless waves a far smaller than even a microwave, and defiantly a phone. They agree that high radiation, and strong waves harm humans, but there will never be enough waves in the air from wireless networking to harm anyone.
The problem is the media is trying to back up these points, however if this was the case.. then they would surely shut down all wireless tele? All phones? and Radio? They just want a story... Verdict? Scientifically no. Not a chance it could harm you.

Vista being a let down

They say it every year, of this years update will be fine, its great, theres always floors. This time such as cursors going missing, and computers freezing constantly. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6544089.stm
Plus that report explains of all the different ways hackers are getting into the systems. The good news is that the next update fixes all these problems, which is good, aslong as your p.c or laptop isnt already messed up.

Game increase!! Nintendo!!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6528533.stm

Nintendo are apprently fed up of being underdogs, they have decided to branch out on involving more games with there stations, getting better ideas, and gaining new character for popular game series like super mario. I say good for them, but little too late, they have a lot of catching up to do. Also they are going to give out a broader age range, which is good, seeing as they go for under 18s, and the older generation need games too!!

China mad on games... solution? Ban!!

The chinease government is going to clamp down on all the time people play on games, because apprently 13% of children in china, under 18 are addicted to games. So.. they will do it this way, ban them if they get certain amount of points. Thats right were not talking console games, were talking little internet games. A holla to all in china.. GET A LIFE!! buy and xbox 360.. hee hee.

Improved computer graphics

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6457951.stm

Apperntly due to the next generation blue-ray, computer games are going to be much more realistic. And one person even there is going to be photorealistic people running around on computer games, jsut give us "two more years"... exciting time!! I love game already, and graphics makes them for me so thats a big posative point. To show how good blue rays are the text reads that Film studio Pixar uses ray-tracing to produce the images for its cartoons and Peter Jackson used the technique in the Lord of the Rings to make special effects look convincing... plus they say and I quote "Cinematic expirence."... brilliant stuff.

Mobile phones... P.C. Mix and match!!

What a great idea!! A p.c mobile, this technology is up and running already, and i have got to say its pritty incredible... with the basic computer options on it, such as running programs, and writing flaming essays on em, you can also text or ring your mates. Good, but the downers are obviously the batteries are made smaller than a laptop and quite honestly, laptop computers batteries are that longlives, so im worried about that, plus the price (which is not put on the website) will be pritty high. Fair enough, for the average rich businessman it will be a worthwile purchase, but honestly, I think i'll stick with cheaper more efficiant phones untill they go down in price, and last longer.

Ps3 Controllers

The playstation 3 controllers compared to the ps2 versions have alot of things in common. There both black, and have the traditional cross, circle, and square, a start and select button, a R1, R2, L1, and L2 button, all in the same place. However to not worry that the controller has not evolved into something better!! The new controllers have wireless bluetooth connection, plus they hold sensors so you can add a Wii feel to certain games, for example driving games you can use the controller as kind of a wheel. However unlike other consoles including previous playstations and xbox, and xbox 360, there is now no vibration funtion. Bummer. However they recon its because it ruins the motion detector, and personally I would prefer the motion gadget.

Road Safety

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6461831.stm

Due to German research, there has been an invention, to help road safety. This peice of technology, will be used on cars and bikes, and if they go past oils, stop and jams, or have any accidents, a wireless wave threw the internet will hit following cars.. up to a mile!! Through a screen on the dash board, or on your mobile phone! Impessive, the expense hasn't been proccessed yet, but im betting it'l be expensive. Clever though, for the sound alert isn't as lound when the driver is going fast, or is doin quick turns, but will only light up, wear-as if the driver is going slow, the sound will be loud, and there will be a more in-deph warning. Good stuff!

Violent Video Games

Ok... so I play violent games.. all the time.. and I have killed 3 people. Im just joking of course.. Games dont make you want to kill. Ok you here on the news every year or so.. someone killed someone else because of a game. Clearly there just mad men, of course if any one killed anyone there nut cases. Why play violent games? They push games to the edge, you get to do things you wouldnt usually do.. if a game was about putting the kettle on it wouldnt be that fun. Plus!! Not to mention that playing on violent games gets out your anger, and makes you stop taking life so seriously.
SO!! if I kill somone, or go crazy or whatever, arrest me and say there you go.. but im not a nut case. I just enjoy a bit of fake blood spread!!
We watch violent films, so why not play violent games?

Virtual World

Ok, so if your fed up with your life at the momend and you want to be someone else.. then why don't you go on something which is growing rapidly... Virtual World's. Such as Second life... You can be whoever you want to be, and do whatever you say, which is fantastic, although to keep this a business, in the real world.. there are too many pop-ups to not be annoyed!!! It is used for pleasure, and connecting to people around the world.. with play custimation, world building, and site seeing, the system and ideas into the game are pritty convincingly fun!! However the ultimate question is... how sad are you? If very it is for you.
For a fairly decent review... http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,1306196,00.asp which also includes information on other multiplayer virtual worlds, for example The Sims online.

Ipod Phone

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4223938.stm

What this gadget called "Rokr"??!!

So the majority of the population around the world have a phone, and large amounts of people have some sort of MP3, and many, and ipod of some kind. However, not everyone has both rolled into one... untill now.

Apple have now reveiled the new Ipod phone, which is developed by Motarola for Apple, with abilities to call, and text people, and to video and take pictues, whilst listening to your favourite tracks. However, at the momment, with a standard 512 memory card, you can only have 100 songs, and you cannot increase the amount of songs even with a bigger card. The bbc site explains that Carsten Schmidt, European manager for Motorala's retail operations say's "There will be more coming with higher memory".

For now Rokr will only be able to download music via USB connection, from p.c to phone.. and will not be used with Itunes but just by simple dragging and dropping onto a folder.. which some might say it's easier, but ultimately it means that the music you put on is harder to syncronise, and to put in a decent order, and it will mean that the phone will be more like the rubbish (in my opinion ipod shuffle)... However, it is early days and things can only get better, and with Apple, things usually do.

The phone looks great with a colour-screen, and a silver frame, with high quality stereo speakers, and included is a VGA quality camera!!
The colour-screen gadget is silver, has stereo speakers and has a VGA quality camera onboard. This denies all rumours which I have heard, that the ipod phone cannot do more than phone and text and listen to music. However, a good negative point is that if the phone is like an ipod, the phone will run out of battery, and fast.

Overall, although the ipod phone or Rokr isn't completely up-to-date with a new technology standard, it will be improved, and at a reasonable £136 pounds (however, buyers must commit to a two year contract) in most phone shops, it not a bad buy. It is already out in america, and it will be out in UK soon... hopefully.

Interactive T.V

Interactive TV, allows viewers to do other things with your television, than just sit and watch. It lets you join in with programmes, see extra news stories and sports coverage, check sports results, travel information and weather forecasts, plus play games, go shopping, and place bets. Which is slightly like using the internet.

All you have to do is press the "red button"! It comes up when a certain part of a programme is on, or throughout a certain programme a red button symbol holds its position in the top right of the screen... fun?? No. More annoying. Because NTL find it incredible hard to create a flowing T.V experience with no hicupps (and thats not just me, iv had words with other people).. ~So yes the red button shows... but as soon as you hit it FREEZE alert. I've never used it before because it freezes. But Sky does it aswell at times... so its not completely reliable.

So!! Interactive TV is available with any digital service, though the type and number of features vary according to whether you have Freeview, satellite or cable.
Most of the interactive features currently available are provided by the BBC, Sky and the cable companies. A few other broadcasters, including Channel 4, offer a limited range, and there are also games participation channels such as ITV Play and YooPlay.

Personally, from what I've heard, sports are the best option to use interactive TV. On BBC, you can watch the football in different angles, watch it in split screen, whilst the other half has the updated football scores.

well overall its a good idea, however it is unreliable, and needs alot of work on.. but soon it will kick ass.

Blue Ray Disks.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc

First I will bore you with the techniqal information in a simple summary....
The Blue-ray disk is a new type of storage CD. Alike DVD, it will soon be used wordley for films, and other things that are used... for example the Playstation 3 games will be used by blue-ray disk because Sony developed this devise. Technically, it is better than DVD because the DVD can only perform 4.7 G.B on each layer, and the Blue-ray does up to 25 G.B... which is a fantastic difference. Rumours have it that a single disk can hold up to every season of the Simpsons and Friends. This has not been proved mind, but is used as a selling point. The reason that the Blue-ray-disks hold more is because the red lazer which is used for DVD has the wavelengh of 50 nm and the Blue-ray-disks wavelengh is 650 nm lazer which is well, blue.... hense the name.

The price online, for a standard player is in America $1,500, which is in UK £785.

Expensive mabey but dam right worth it. Theres no downer, better quality, sound, and more storage space, and yes the price is quite expensive, but it will drop quick, and will get smaller and better. Think of the DVD, that was even more expensive to start with, and now look, 50 quid for a decent one. Just you wait... its the new generation of movie watching, game playing, and music listening. Also, you can instead of buying box sets, or each DVD as it comes, just buy a whole bundle of stuff, for me it would be all seasons of Scrubs. Plus in all movies there will be longer and better extra feactures... What is there to lose?

The in formation, and picture of the player on... http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v3/pg/product/details/0,,2076_310069741_290062577,00.html

Playstation 3

Finally after a long long long long long long long time, the Playstation 3 is finally coming out in Europe!! It's about time. It's been over a year more than the original date coming into this country at March 23 2007. However, if you want the playstation 3 for at least two months after it comes out you best put down a deposit somewere because they are going to be sold out for weeks!! People are already basically at the gates waiting to bang the doors down, but I'm a little more practical. And heres why...
The Cost is disgusting.
£425 just for the console. The games cost £60 quid each. Rip off one might say? Well you can see it in both ways but personal I think it's daft. The reasons are Sony are struggling, they are running out of money. The chip in one of these consoles costs up to £2,000, and with the new media technology of the Blue-ray disks, (I will explain more in my next articale, but it is a type of CD with more storage than DVD.) the cost just rides up. Plus, there is all of these other good points-
It has four USB ports, it is capable of saving up to 60 gigabite of about anything, has an ethernet socket for online gaming which is getting ever increasingly popular, wirless controllers, and 256 megabites worth of RAM. This may seem impressive, but the only main difference to the main competition Xbox 360, is that it takes blue-ray disks.
However, all of these call add ons, which are mostly on Microsoft Xbox, do look good, but there is one main question... how much out of these media funtions will you use, and is it worth putting it in, riding up the cost, and upsetting customers. Will it fail to sell?? Only time will tell. I'm hoping prices will drop dramitically.
Its not set onto paper as yet, but slowely but surely it likely that you cannot use, borrow, or sell pre-owned games, which puts a big bullet in businesses like Blockbusters who would dream of all the selling they would be doing from pre-owned games. This is a big let down. What they have done is they have encoded a code onto the game disks, and when inserted into the PS3 it takes the code away and remembers it, so it cannot be used on other Ps3's. What if you wanted to go round a mates and bring some games? What happens if your PS3 break and you get a new one> ? You need to get new games. Sort it out Sony.
Overall the Playstation 3 is a powerful machine, with graphics so amazing it will rock you of your seat. But they have gone to far with the expensive and ruined the chances of everyday ppl having this console. It will be better when it's cheaper, and im pritty sure the pre-owned games situation will go away. hopefully.

Microsoft Vista

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6309651.stm

Vista. The new revolution of the Microsoft XP. Personally XP works for me fine, but I can't help but want the new n', it's to darn tempting.

So, I thought I would be simple enough, just buy a cd, thats cheap and cheerful, and if your desktop p.c or laptop says "Vista" on it somewhere, it can be upgraded to Vista. Apparently no, that is not the case.

You have to have certain requirments for it to run smoothly, although it isn't to hard to reach the requirments, but for people with poorer computers, which have been told it can use Vista, they have been lied to. The computers 512Mb of RAM, a 800Mhz processor and 15Gb of hard disk space.
